Disney has announced today that they have bought out the remaining two Marvel movies out from Paramount for a cool $112 million, which means both The Avengers and Iron Man 3 will be Disney movies when they are released. The Avengers will be released in May of 2012 and Iron Man 3 will come out the following year.
“In completing this agreement, Disney will now assume worldwide marketing and distribution of The Avengers and Iron Man 3 and leverage these two highly-anticipated films across the multiple global platforms of The Walt Disney Company,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “We appreciate the tremendous momentum that Paramount established with these iconic Marvel characters and look forward to propelling the brand even further in the coming years.”
This doesn’t affect either Thor or Captain America, which come out next summer. There hasn’t been any word on the Marvel characters at Fox (X-Men, Fantastic Four, Daredevil) or Sony (Spider-Man, Ghost Rider), but if Disney is being this aggressive with their $4 billion investment; they may not be safe much longer.
