If you use Facebook, and we know a lot of you do, here’s a quick PSA about a change to their Privacy Settings that goes into effect this week. The long-hyped “Instant Personalization” feature will be turned on by the end of this week, and this will share your data with non-Facebook sites and it’s set on “Enabled” by default, so if you don’t know about it you’ll be sharing your data with whomever Mark Zuckerberg wants to get money from this week.
This is easy to turn off. Just go to Account > Privacy Settings > Apps & Websites > Instant Personalization > edit settings and uncheck “Enable”. Once that’s done, you should be good to go. And be sure to let your friends know about this, as if they don’t turn it off they’ll be sharing info about you as well.

IP has beeen in effect for months! Funny cartoon, but not sure if the article is based on bandwagon jumping or scaremongering…..

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/04/handy-facebook-english-translator – mention of this from April last year, though again, a little on the paranoid side…

The stupid picture is absurd in its very message. Julianassange does not do it for free. Plus…Facebook doesn’t STEAL information…nor does he put thousands of people at risk.

Assange published data that was already brought outside (ie in the public domain) by someone else. You may not like wikileaks purpose but it is clear and consistent for everyone. WL is not Assange’s cashcow – more likely his egotrip – or his attempt to change the world (incl -corp- politics) for the better as those only should fear WL when theyve been unethical:)
From this article the proposed FB changes are only for Zuckerbergs wallet.

I am also supporting Assange. He has brought out the hypocricy of certain people. He has exposed the people who are well versed in playing double role (with reference to American leaks). Whether he does it for money or free but he is doing a good thing.

And like Roo said..this has been available for almost a year now. So it is very obvious that hte “journalists” at furiousfanboys wanted to act like little bitches with the Wikileaks thing, and needed to invent and excuse to do so.
I mean…I know that blogs don’t have any actual journalistic skills…but even for bloggers, not kowing that this has been live since early last year is not possible.

What a stupid article and horrible comparison between Wikileaks and Facebook. You assholes have no idea what kind of danger Assange has put people in because of his recklessness. And, as everyone else has said, Instant Personalization has been up and running for about a year. Way to be late to the party, morons.

lol spot on picture captions. In the comments it sounds like some security theater twats have swallowed the US line on wikileaks… FYI: to date the Pentagon has been forced to admit that despite all of their initial lies and threats claiming the likelihood otherwise, no US or allied deaths have been tracked to the release of the Afghanistan files. “Putting thousands of people at risk” yeah… the cushy jobs of the rich and powerful. I’ll like to see how mainstream news will spins the future release of BofA financial collapse/insider trading/tax evasion info. I’m sure they’ll find some way to make sure it’s “threatening US security”

“Once that’s done, you should be good to go.”
Until the next time they add an assualt to our privacy and enable it by default.

Well, you don’t agree to a usage agreement with Assange. He hacks and snoops. With Zuckerberg, you agreed to it.

I never agreed to allowing my personal information to be shared with Web sites chosen by Facebook. Its on by default, who chose that? And especially when I have to beg my friends to do un-enable that setting. I guess that some of you think it is OK for the government and corporations to have secrets but not citizens. “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

Old or new, I never realized the default setting to be inflicting on people’s privacy, nice one! Loved the Social Network movie, LMAO ridiculous hollywood spin on things, especially loved the scene in which Uncle Mark has a Oprah (c) tm “Ah-Ahh” moment of adding your relationship status as the finishing touch. What would having your details be worth if they cant use the ones closest to you as leverage?
Anywho; unlike the loudones in here, I’m not afraid of fascists dressed in wiki-clothing. Nor for fabled islamic balsack-bombers, Egyptian (CIA scripted) Twitter revolution excuses, or anyone that still proclaims that we (people) just need to shut and rather gape at musical cats and faked discovery channel history shows.
Thanks again for the article and the heads up
