Nintendo to Reveal New HD Console at E3

How’s this for a bombshell? Game Informer and IGN are both confirming that Nintendo intends to unveil a new console at E3 this year. The news has been trickling in a lot over the last few hours, but here is the most recent information IGN as able to gleam from their sources:

  • It will at least be equal in power to the PS3 if not significantly more powerful.
  • The system will run in HD resolutions up to 1080p.
  • It will be backwardly compatible with all Wii software.
  • Nintendo is already showing the console to publishers to garner interest for a 2012 launch.
  • Nintendo is expected to make some kind of pre-E3 announcement regarding the system.

It isn’t known yet if it will carry the Wii name or not, but some of the news is saying that it won’t as Nintendo intends to launch a new brand with the console to recapture the hardcore gamer market.

Who cares if the graphics are better, when the gameplay is mediocre and just revolves around a gimmick? I’m sorry, Nintendo, why should I purchase anymore of your consoles when the Wii was SOLELY based on its controller style, yet implimented it horribly. Or, like Brawl, didn’t use it at all. It’s a better, safer, and more logical move for a gamer to buy a PS3 or a Xbox360, who’re already powerful, show they know how to use the same gimmick and actually IMPLEMENT it well (Killzone 3 brought the same joy to my gaming heart that Duckhunt did, back when I was 5), and don’t rehash the same game over, and over, and over again when the others are actively bringing out new and innovative titles or support a wider variety of the older ones( Psychonauts, shadow of the collosus, etc).

I loved my Wii. For about six months. I’ve barely touched it in the last two years. Sure, there’ve been a handful of odd cult games that have piqued my interest, but in the end, I’d rather spend my limited free time playing games like Mass Effect and Fallout. If Nintendo ever wants me to purchase a console from them again, they’re going to need to do a lot of convincing. The trickle of Zelda and Mario games just doesn’t cut it for me anymore.

Gotta agree with Brathor. I sold my Wii after about 9 months due to the lack of really good games coming out and pretty much do my gaming on the PC.

Why are the people writing blogs and articles always illiterate these days? You don’t GLEAM from a source…not unless they are oiling you down or something. You GLEAN information from them…you know, like, to harvest.
