If you think that Paramount and Marvel Studios would be changing the title of Captain America: The First Avenger in other parts of the world, think again. The New York Times reports that despite initial thoughts to release the movie as simply “The First Avenger” to foreign countries, the movie will go out with the Captain America title intact:
Marvel and Paramount Pictures, which is distributing “Captain America: The First Avenger,†figured they would simply release the film as the truncated “The First Avenger†in foreign countries. But in a surprise, Paramount’s overseas operation objected, arguing that Captain America had too much brand value, even in spots like France that are leery of embracing Team America too readily.
The article does go on to say that Paramount gave overseas distributors the option of using the “First Avenger” title, and only Russia, the Ukraine, and South Korea optioned to do so.
