It’s been the worst-kept secret in the video game industry, but today EA officially announced the Starbreeze-developed Syndicate. A big change to the franchise that Bullfrog made famous, as you can tell from the screenshots below, it’ll be a first person shooter and EA says it will include a four-player multiplayer mode that uses missions from the original game.
“We are excited to finally reveal what we’ve been working on the past couple years,” says Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze Studios. “It’s been a great experience working with EA, and an amazing opportunity for us to use our expertise in the first person shooter and action genres to bring back, and reignite, the signature action/espionage gameplay of Syndicate.”
The original Syndicate was a classic on the PC (although some console ports were made) and was an isometric strategy game with some shooting elements. Fans of the original fear EA and Starbreeze turning the game into just another shooter, and they’ll be able to see what it’s become when the new Syndicate releases in early 2012 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
