In the on-going development hell of the Star Trek sequel, it looks like J.J. Abrams will be directing it after all. Vulture confirmed the news this morning, and the movie is apparently already in pre-production. The script isn’t finished yet, but that’s due to happen very shortly.
The unfinished script and Abrams being previously undecided on directing it is likely what caused the movie to be delayed from the summer 2012 release date G.I. Joe 2 now sits in. So right now there’s no set release date. One rumor puts it in Holiday 2012, which is actually the traditional Star Trek movie release window, while another puts it in Summer 2013.
Now if they can just get Shatner as Harry Mudd the movie will be awesome.
