Sunday night’s Season Two premiere of The Walking Dead shattered the ratings record for cable. Deadline reports that counting all of the encore showings of the premiere episode, a total of 11 million people tuned in to see some zombie gore. That’s a lot of people for a show that AMC recently slashed the budget on and fired the showrunner just to shovel more money at Mad Men.
On average, the number of viewers for the Season Two premiere was up nearly 40% compared to last year. A whole year of positive word of mouth must have worked, as that’s a huge increase. Hopefully AMC sees how many people love the show and will take some money away from those 1960s advertising execs and reinvest in the zombie apocalypse.
