Two years ago, The Empire Strikes back celebrated its 30th Anniversary and last year it was Raiders’ turn. This year marks thirty years since 1982; a year that was an explosion for fanboy movie classics. Nearly every one of these movies deserves a theatrical re-release this year for a new generation to experience them, but at least we’ll likely see them all on Blu-Ray by the end of the year as there is only one on this list not yet out on high def disc.
Tron

You can’t really be a fanboy without loving Tron. It’s set inside a computer and inside video games! How is that not going to the core of what makes us fanboys? The original Tron arrived in 1982, but wasn’t a huge hit. It became a classic on home video and now 30 years later it’s a staple of our video collections.
Blade Runner

Think about this, from 1977 through 1983; Harrison Ford played Han Solo, Indiana Jones, and Rick Deckard. That forever cemented his status as the greatest actor of all time. Hands down. Blade Runner has had many various cuts throughout the years, all of which are available on Blu-Ray, but Ridley Scott’s Final Cut is truly the definitive version.
E.T. the Extra Terrestrial

The highest grossing film of 1982 is one of Spielberg’s best movies ever, and it remains my all time favorite movie. To hear Spielberg say at Comic Con 2011 that E.T. was his favorite movie to make really made waiting in line six hours for that panel worth it. It looks like we’ll finally get the movie on Blu-Ray this year as it’s both the 30th Anniversary of the movie and Universal is releasing a ton of catalog titles for their 100th Anniversary. And the best news is that the Blu-Ray will only be the original 1982 version.
