5 of the Best Star Wars Commercials

This year the Big Game will feature another potentially classic Star Wars commercial. No one knows what it’ll be, but it’ll mix Star Wars and dogs…which is always awesome. Over the years Star Wars has been turned into some pretty epic trailers and funny commercials, and here are five of the best.

Little Vader

This was VW’s 2011 Superbowl spot, and it instantly became a classic. It was parodied from everyone from people online, to Marvel and hippies who hate cars. The kid in the ad even became a lobbyist in Washington trying to earn money for children’s hospitals. This ad will go down in history as one of the best Star Wars spoofs ever.

Star Wars Special Edition Trailer

It’s a trailer, but it’s probably the greatest trailer ever made. No matter what your thoughts on the Special Editions are, you can’t watch this trailer and not want to immediately fire up the Original Trilogy. It’s absolutely epic, and the trailers they did for Empire and Jedi were almost as good.

Cinemax’s Saga Promo

A couple of years ago, Cinemax aired all six of the movies in HD. Prior to the Blu-Ray release, DVR recordings of these airings where the only way people were able to see HD versions of the movies, as Cinemax aired them in 1080i. The promo they cut for it used Coldplay’s Fix You and it ended up being the best thing Cinemax has ever done that doesn’t involve nudity.

Vader Fails at Football

Last year’s Blu-Ray release of the saga came just in time for the start of the NFL season. So Lucasfilm teamed with ESPN to alert football fans to the movies coming out in HD and the result was an epic fail by Vader in his fantasy football draft.

Yoda Da-Man!

This is included here because it’s so amazingly bad, it’s awesome. It’s one of those things that you just have to stare at with your jaw on the floor while wondering what kind of drugs the marketing department were on when they decided this could convince people to buy Episode II on DVD back in 2002. There really was a Star Wars commercial, on television, that called Yoda “Da Man”.
