Avatar 2 Delayed to 2016

Remember the original plan to have Avatar 2 and 3 out in 2012 and 2013 respectively? Well, according to Avatar Producer Jon Landau, that ain’t happening anymore. Bleeding Cool has the news where Landau explains that Avatar 2 is four years away, which would put it in a 2016 release. In addition to 3D and lots of CG, he did re-confirm that they’ll be shooting it at a higher framerate although he didn’t specify if it would be 48fps like The Hobbit or the rumored 60fps.

If the first sequel doesn’t make it out until 2016, that would mean seven years will have passed between the original movie and its release. Hopefully they’re still planning to shoot both sequels at the same time so there wouldn’t be another seven year wait between the second and third movies.
