Yesterday saw SOPA and PIPA protests spread across the internet with sites with Wikipedia, Google, and craigslist going black. And it appears to have worked. After several Congressmen and House members withdrew their support of both bits of stupidity, the White House came out and announced that it would veto SOPA:

While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.

That effectively kills SOPA. The Internet has won this battle, for now. It’s only a matter of time before those who have no idea how the Internet actually works try to make a similar law a reality again.
