If you’re a Magic: The Gathering player, you’ll know that most players these days now use their smartphones as their life counter during matches. Thanks to the numerous apps people have created the days of using dice, tokens, or paper spin down counters are gone. With so many of these unofficial apps on the market for both iOS and Android, Wizards is jumping into the fray with an official Magic app due out later this month for iOS devices and sometime in the future for Android.
The Toolbox app will be free and will include a Life Counter that’s compatible with just about every game type, a Gatherer card search, a Deck Builder, and an Article Reader. At launch the Deck Builder will include every card released, but when new sets come out they will charge a “small fee” to unlock the cards.
Preview images of the app look great, and it’ll finally be nice to have an official one on my iPhone. Sure, some of the fan-made apps have more features (one allows you to scan cards with the phone’s camera), but many aren’t free like this.
