Did you know that Ralph McQuarrie had a cameo in The Empire Strikes Back? While the Prequel Trilogy is packed with many crew member cameos (including Rick McCallum’s in The Phantom Menace that’s so obvious it bugs me), the Original Trilogy didn’t have so many obvious ones. McQuarrie’s cameo is a blink-and-you’ll miss it one where he walks by the screen right before the evacuation of Eco Base. Even cooler is that he’s walking in front of a matte painting that he made himself.

His character didn’t have a name at the time, but eventually the Expanded Universe would name him Pharl McQuarrie and Kenner would even issue an action figure based on the cameo.
