I don’t care what the box office or cynical critics who base their reviews on commercials say, John Carter was one of the best movies of 2012 so far and the best big budget science fiction blockbuster since Return of the Jedi.
Andrew Stanton was able to perfectly capture the rousing fun, humor, and romance that made the Original Star Wars Trilogy such scifi classics, and made a movie that was unfortunately crippled by a marketing department that didn’t know how to sell the epic and an army of critics who had it out for the movie before it was even released.
I loved every second of John Carter, so you’d better believe I can’t wait to own it on disc. Even though it pulled in nearly $300 million worldwide, the movie was considered a disappointment in the US box office, so Disney is releasing it on disc pretty quickly.
While Disney hasn’t made the official announcement yet, Amazon has posted pre-orders for a 4-disc Blu-Ray 3D/Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy set as well as a 2-disc Blu-Ray/DVD combo. There won’t be news of what sort of extras are included until Disney makes its official announcement, but if Amazon is taking pre-orders with official cover art; that news should be coming soon.
