Despite fears of a toothless Prometheus hitting theaters with a PG-13 rating, it’s now been confirmed that the Alien prequel will indeed be rated R. People had begun buying pre-sale tickets for the midnight showing, which had a R rating on it and pictures began to hit the ‘net.

It first popped up on IMDB, but that hive of scum and villainy is known for false information (Aunt May/Carnage in Spider-Man 3, anyone?), but Collider managed to get it confirmed by Fox that the MPAA has rated Prometheus R for “sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language.”

You can rest easy now, Prometheus should be just as scary and intense as its pedigree.
