While Ridley Scott’s Prometheus doesn’t hit US theaters for another week and a half, it’s now playing internationally and that means we have all of the spoilers detailing just how awesome the movie is. How much of an Alien prequel is it? What could the sequel be like? Does it live up to Alien? All of those questions are answered with the movie.
As for the question of how it compares it Alien, apparently very well. Overall reaction is extremely positive and the gore level is taken to such an extreme, some people are reported to have fainted in the movie. Those rumors of it being “shot for PG13″ are completely false. It’s an intense and very scary scifi adventure.
The movie does show the origin of life on Earth, which is seeded by the Space Jockeys (called Engineers in the movie) in an opening scene of which bits are seen in the trailer (the waterfalls with the saucer, and the guy’s arm turning black). Those snake like aliens shown in some clips are really the origin of the xenomorphs in a way. It takes most of the movie to happen, but those little worms eventually become what is the first facehugger that implants an egg inside a Space Jockey. The majority of the movie does feel like an Alien movie, but by the end there is no doubt that this is a prequel showing by origin of the xenomorph.
You’re probably asking if we see a xenomorph in the movie. Not a full grown one, but there is a real chestburster.
As for a sequel? There are a couple different ways it could go. The movie definitely hints that it could head to the home planet of the Space Jockeys. LV426 isn’t in the movie, and we don’t see how that ship ends up there with a bunch of eggs in it, so the direction they take any Prometheus sequel is definitely going to be one of the most debated aspects of the movie after fanboys digest it.
