When DCUO began to rapidly lose players, SOE decided to merge the PC and PS3 servers into two massive “megaservers”. The Old Republic is facing a similar population problem, and while server merges were hinted to in the past; there is now a bit of confirmation on how they will be handled.
In an interview with PC Gamer, BioWare’s Daniel Erickson discusses patch 1.3 and the subject of merging the servers into larger high capacity servers slipped out when he was asked about the upcoming LFG tool:
DE: They will not be cross-server as we are coming up on a huge move to servers with massively higher population caps than we have today.
Basically it sounds just like the “megaservers” SOE made for DCUO where multiple servers were merged into one very large server. This prevents people and analysts from seeing the true population levels for the servers as well as solves the problems of some servers being near-empty.
