Not long after EA and BioWare flip flopped on the subject of going Free to Play with The Old Republic, the developer is now calling it a challenge. Speaking with PC Gamer, TOR’s Game Director discusses the difficulty in converting a subscription game to the free model:
“I think it can work for different games. It really depends on how you go with your game. Games that have been built to be free-to-play from the start definitely work out. Now, there have been games that weren’t free to play from the start and transferred over to becoming free to play that have worked as well. But it’s definitely not something that’s super easy to do.”
Most games, like D&D Online, LOTRO, and STO that went Free to Play turned out really good after the change. Is BioWare doubting their ability to swallow their pride and turn TOR into a Free to Play game?
