Could Contact be coming true? It’s too bad Carl Sagan isn’t around for this. In a publicity stunt to promote their new “Chasing UFO” series on the NatGeo channel, National Geographic is crowd-sourcing a response to the famous “Wow!” signal from 1977, which could be an alien broadcast from somewhere in Sagittarius.

To participate, you just need to tweet your message to the aliens with the tag #ChasingUFOs anytime from 8:00pm EDT on Friday through 3:00am EDT on Saturday. NatGeo will compile all of those tweets during that time and take the whole message to Arecibo who encrypt it and send it back to the aliens.

Hopefully things don’t end up like they did in Battleship…
