After both The Phantom Menace and Titanic saw success with 3D conversion re-releases, Fox has announced they’re doing the same for Independence Day. Since Spielberg’s Robopocalypse was delayed until 2014, it opened up a slot next July; so ID4 is being re-released just in time for the 4th of July holiday next year.

The last news out of the two ID4 sequels is that they were running into a snag in that even though they were going to film both sequels at the same time as one long movie, a certain star felt that they should be paid something along the lines of $100 million dollars, which worked out to $50 million for each installment. Perhaps they’ve worked things out and will be releasing the first movie in 2014 and want to use the re-release to remind people of the original?
