I think that I speak for a lot of people when I say the current Doctor is one of the best in a long time. While each Doctor has had his own unique touch to the role, Matt Smith’s bow-tie wearing fez-loving Doctor has been so awesome over the last two series that most people are hoping he sticks with it for a long time. In an interview about an upcoming movie about two British Olympians that he’s starring in, the question came up:

Matt…Doctor Who…how long are you staying?

Matt Smith: “Forever. 50 years. I’m loving making it. I think we’ve got one of our strongest seasons yet coming up. I really do. We go into the 50th year all guns blazing. And I’ll be around. So…that’s it, really.”

I really hope that’s true, but I think we’ve heard it before. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember David Tennant expressing a similar sentiment right before Hollywood came knocking…and we know how that turned out.
