Next month, District 9 will be three years old. Released on August 14th 2009, the movie immediately became a science fiction classic and the end of the movie blew the doors wide open for a sequel we never got. At the end of the movie, Christopher promises Wikus that he would return in three years to fix him and turn him back into a human. We know Wikus transformed completely into a Prawn, so those three years opens up some interesting possibilities for a sequel.

Despite Blomkamp making Elysium and ignoring the District 9 universe with his second movie, we still want the story resolve. He’s hinted that his next movie in the universe could be a sequel, and that’d be a horrible idea. Is Wikus now part of the hive mind? Would he side with the humans or the Prawns? What’s going on in District 10? There are so many cool things that could go on in a sequel, but three years have passed and we don’t have it yet.

Hopefully Elysium turns out awesome, which would give Blomkamp more pull to return to the District 9 universe and give us the sequel that was promised by Christopher.
