If you’ve been wondering when the next World of Warcraft expansion will hit, we may just be two months away. Evidence is mounting that the expansion will land in September, and here’s what we know so far:
- Blizzard will unveil the expansion’s CG intro cinematic at Gamescom in Germany next month. They usually don’t have this cinematic done until right before the expansion is ready to release.
- Raid testing for the expansion’s first tier of raid encounters has picked up rapidly in the last couple of weeks, which means they’re testing the last parts of the level 90 endgame content that will ship with the expansion.
- Blizzard has announced that patch 5.0.1 will be on the Public Test Servers very soon. This will be the patch that launches the world event that leads into Mists of Pandaria. If they’re putting that on the PTR within the next couple of weeks, that means that it will likely arrive on the live servers in August…just in time for a September expansion release.
What’s interesting is that releasing the expansion in September would be a month after the release of Guild Wars 2. Just the right timing to lure people back with a ton of new content and a new race/class combo.
