Negative Dark Knight Rises Reviews Incite Death Threats

Christopher Nolan fans have a reputation online for being assholes who lash out at anyone who gives a Nolan movie a negative review for any reason. Any slight critical criticism of one of his movies causes unbelievably levels of hatred against whoever is the source of the comments, and Nolan fans don’t like this type of stereotype.

But what has happened with the Rotten Tomatoes reviews has definitely reinforced it, as the site has had to disable all commenting on Dark Knight Rises reviews after the few negative reviews on the site were hit by death threats to the author by Batman fans who haven’t even seen the movie yet.

The New York Times has the details:

On Monday, Rotten Tomatoes posted and linked to a negative review of “The Dark Knight Rises” by Marshall Fine at his Web site hollywoodandfine.com. Later that day a second negative review of the movie, written by Christy Lemire of The Associated Press, was posted at Rotten Tomatoes. Matt Atchity, editor in chief of Rotten Tomatoes, said he and his colleagues spent several hours policing the post and removing comments with misogynistic or threatening remarks about Ms. Lemire and announced that comments would be suspended.

I wish there was some way to ban those idiots from ever seeing the movie. Or maybe just do this:

Our full review will be posted Thursday morning.
