Twilight Fan Killed Before Comic Con Began

Two years ago, the San Diego Comic Con saw a minor controversy happen when two geeks got into an argument in Hall H and one pulled out a pen and started to go after the other’s eye. No one was seriously injured, but blood was spilled and the one doing the stabbing was dragged out of Comic Con in handcuffs and his limited edition Harry Potter T-Shirt drizzled with blood. The 2012 San Diego Comic Con was struck by tragedy before the show even began, thanks to the fanatical Twilight group who began camping out for Thursday’s panel as early as Monday.

One of the people in line was struck and killed by a car yesterday. According to people at the scene, the fan had left their place in line and went across the street where food could be found in the Gaslamp. On their way back, security told the line to move under the tents so the person tried to run across the busy Harbor Blvd on a red light, tripped, and fell in front of an on-coming car. The 53-year old Twilight fan suffered a severe head wound and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A funeral fund has been launched for the fan, and there’s a petition on Twitter for a moment of silence during Thursday’s panel. I’m not quite sure if those people circulating the petition have even been to a SDCC Twilight panel…as silence is not something I believe is possible in that hall.
