This past Monday, it was rumored that Marvel’s Avengers sequel would arrive the first weekend of May in 2015, and now it’s official. Marvel placed Whedon’s sequel in their traditional May weekend, surprising almost no one.

The big question now is what the story will be. Obviously, Marvel has all of the Phase 2 movies to get through before the Avengers return, but it’s pretty obvious that Thanos will show up in the movie. I think it’s very possible that Thanos may make some kind of small appearance in Thor 2, possibly even having the Dark Elves work for him to try to steal the Infinity Gauntlet from Odin’s vault. Thanos then would be a big villain in Guardians of the Galaxy and the Infinity Gems could play a part in that movie, before Thanos gains the Gauntlet and all of the gems to create a crisis that only The Avengers can solve.
