Friday night, ArenaNet kicked off their headstart event for players who pre-ordered Guild Wars 2. As most players did pre-order the game, the headstart was more of an official start; despite today being the release date for everyone who didn’t pre-order. While it’s not uncommon for some players to hit max level in a MMO during the headstart, Guild Wars 2 has a max level of 80; so doing so in just about three full days is quite a feat.
But that’s exactly what a French player did…with a crafter. According to MMO Culture, the player did levels 1-60 through normal gameplay, and then ground out the remaining 20 levels by crafting stuff for his guild. ArenaNet did come out on Reddit and say that the guy did this through means that weren’t intended, which is a way to say he exploited the game without coming right out and calling him a cheater. Still, it’s pretty crazy that the game was coded so shoddily to allow a player to “beat” it before the official release date.
