If you want to get geeks excited about a live-action superhero movie set in space with a talking raccoon, Marvel may have done that by approaching James Gunn to direct. The director of Super and Slither is apparently Marvel’s choice according to the Hollywood Reporter. While he isn’t as well known as Whedon, Gunn is really popular in hardcore geek circles for a few reasons:
- Slither was awesome, and Super was a smaller more hardcore take on similar themes as Kick Ass.
- He’s of Troma.
- People like to knock him for writing the first Scooby Doo movie, but the way he handled Scrappy Doo in that movie was brilliant.
If this pans out, Guardians of the Galaxy will be in perfect hands.
