Joss Whedon’s new TV series is S.H.I.E.L.D.

When Disney announced that Joss Whedon would be involved with a Marvel TV series, some people assumed it would be S.H.I.E.L.D. related, and that’s exactly what we’re getting. Deadline has revealed that ABC has greenlit a pilot for a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series with Whedon writing and possibly directing the pilot:

S.H.I.E.L.D. will be written by Whedon and frequent collaborators, his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Joss Whedon also is set to direct the pilot, schedule permitting. Production on the pilot, which marks the first live-action Marvel TV project to get a green light, will start immediately. Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Tancharoen executive produce with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.

If the series gets picked up, and hopefully it will, this could serve as the perfect way to introduce smaller characters for future Avengers movies without having to do a full movie just for them. As Wasp is a favorite of Whedon’s for the sequel, she’s someone the series could introduce.
