See Curiosity Land on Mars in HD 1080p Video

Back when Curiosity landed on Mars, NASA released a low-resolution video made up of stills from the MARDI descent imager and promised a high-resolution version would come later. Now it has and it’s amazing. NASA released a 720p version of the video, but a youtube user took the original 1600×1200 stills and put together his own 1080p version of the video that is absolutely awe-inspiriing.

You can see the entire video below, and it shows the entire descent and with the high-resolutuion stills you’re even able to see the heat shield impacting on the Martian surface. As Curiosity gets closer to the surface and you can see the dust kicking up, you can really appreciate the HD quality of the footage. This is video of something mankind made landing on another planet. Think of that while you watch this:
