So, is Dark Knight Returns 2 Now Canon?

About a decade ago, Frank Miller cashed a paycheck by releasing DKR2. A sequel to the legendary Dark Knight Returns, the book wasn’t really enjoyed by anyone and seen as a big cash grab by DC. There was some humor in it, as you could tell that Miller’s condition of doing the sequel for DC was that they allowed him to do whatever the hell he wanted with the characters.

One of those things was making Supergirl the daughter of Superman and Wonder Woman, as Wonder Woman’s amazonian womb is the only one on Earth that could carry a Kryptonian baby to term. Sure, Superman and Wonder Woman have teased each other for decades, but it was sort of an unspoken joke that Miller threw in people’s faces with DKR2.

This week, Justice League #12 hit comic shops, and as you can see from the cover Geoff Johns has officially made Supes and Diana the new power couple in the DCU. This was DC’s big salvo to take away from Spider-Man’s 50th Anniversary issue where he gains his new sidekick, Alpha, and it seems to be working as the mainstream press is going nuts over the cover alone.

But with Wonder Woman in Superman’s arms, in a rebooted DCU, does that mean that future the events of DKR2 could possibly be set in this rebooted universe?
