Both Marvel and DC tend to have an issue at the moment with big-name creators bailing and then mouthing off online. The most recent was Punisher writer Greg Rucka, and he is only the latest in a recent stream of departures. One big-name writer who has an awesome idea for a Marvel character is Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, who says he’d like to write Doctor Strange but has one big condition on doing so.
In an interview with MTV that was conducted at Worldcon (seen the vid below), Martin explains that he would write Doctor Strange only if his lawyers could get an iron clad contract out of Marvel that whatever he did would remain canon forever. That means no writer would be able to retcon, reboot, or otherwise alter anything he did with the character. Naturally, Marvel would likely never agree to such a contract, but Martin definitely “gets” Doctor Strange so I’d love to see his version come to life somehow.
