With this week’s release of all four Indiana Jones movies on Blu-Ray, the Crystal Skull hate brigade is out in full force. Ignoring the fact that the fourth movie has been out on Blu-Ray since 2008, snarky Internet heroes are going on another crusade to let everyone know that they won’t be buying the movie (while secretly ordering the set off Amazon). Part of that crusade includes bashing a yet to be made Indy 5 and hoping that it won’t be released.
Not long ago, word came out that Spielberg and Ford were simply too busy to do another Indy, but it’s sounding like everyone involved wants it to happen, but the ball is in George Lucas’ court to get it done. That’s what Karen Allen told Movies.com this week while promoting the Blu-Rays:
Movies.com: What about a fifth Indy movie? Would you be game for that?
Karen Allen: I would! And I, in fact, just talked with Steven Spielberg recently – we e-mailed back and forth, and I said, “What should I say? I’m doing this publicity, what should I say if people ask me that question?” And he said, “It’s in George’s [Lucas] hands! I’m game, Harrison’s game, and now it’s up to George to write the script or to get the script organized, and the story.” And so I think it’s – they want to do a fifth, from what I understand, but they don’t want to do it just to do it, they want to do it if they can come up with a story that everybody is happy with and that everybody likes.
Prequel and Indy 4 haters were recently celebrating when Lucas announced he was retiring, I wonder if the pressure from the rest of the Indy gang will spark him to get a story idea for a fifth movie and ruin those hater’s lives all over again.
