If you need any more evidence that Brian Michael Bendis is a talentless hack who shouldn’t be allowed to write superhero books anymore, look no further than this week’s Avengers vs X-Men #11. Bendis tried to shock the comic book world by killing off a “major” character, and just like Johnny Storm’s recent death and super-fast resurrection; they claim this death will last. The only question is, when is X-Men: Days of Future’s Past hitting theaters, as they’ll definitely resurrect him before that happens.
In Avengers vs. X-Men #11, the Pheonix-Force Cyclops fries Professor X. Zaps him good and dead. The only problem is that anyone who has read X-Men comics over the last decade could’ve seen this coming a mile away and it doesn’t even phase them one bit. Professor X popped up in the crossover pretty early on, but he’s been much of a background character over the past ten years as Cyclops and Emma have taken on the leadership role of the X-Men and Mutants in general.
So when Professor X is knocked off in this week’s issue, my only reaction (after a facepalm for Bendis being so predicable) was just to shrug and try to peg a date for his eventual resurrection. The mass media is making a huge deal out of this, but for comic readers; it really just means that a useless character won’t be taken up valuable panel real estate .
