10 Movies Fanboys Watch on Halloween

It’s that time of year again. Urchins wearing masks will be knocking on your door begging for hand outs. What’s a good fanboy or fangirl to do? Lock yourself in your house, kill the lights, and watch some geek-favorite movies on Halloween. Here are ten that that mix horror, scifi, or things in general that geeks like:

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Tim Burton’s stop-motion holiday tale has become both a Halloween and Christmas classic. While Burton didn’t direct it, the story and look of the movie is all his. It was originally planned to be a short Christmas special, the kind of thing that would run every year after Rudolph on television. But it ended up becoming a full length movie, and a classic that has developed its own rabid group of fanboys and fangirls.

The Monster Squad

Take “Goonies” and toss in some famous movie monsters, and you get The Monster Squad. It may not be as well known as The Goonies, but the movie is a cult classic and those who remember it love it. It’s available on BluRay, so if you’ve ever seen it or weren’t around when it was released back in 1987, definitely check it out.

Alien

Prior to Carpenter remaking The Thing in the early 80′s, Ridley Scott’s original Alien was the top of the heap when it came to SciFi Horror. The atmosphere and feel of the movie is still unmatched, and it remains a classic in both the scifi and horror genres. And c’mon, the chest-burster is still awesome. This is another movie that no self-respecting scifi fan should ignore.

Aliens

While more of an action movie than the original, Cameron’s Aliens still had enough jump out of your seat moments to earn itself a place on this list. It’s also a lot more fun than Alien, thanks to “Game Over, man!” It does have the tense moments the original had, only they’re broken up by the sound of pulse rifles and screeching xenomoprh death.
