It’s been too long since we’ve had a true MechWarrior game. Microsoft’s MechAssault third-person games on the original XBox were very popular, if only for the mechanized destruction, but that wasn’t MechWarrior. The classic MechWarrior 2 (and its expansions) on the PC was really the last time we had a great mech combat simulation, until today.

MechWarrior Online has officially entered Open Beta today, after a few delays. You can head on over to the official site and sign up for a free account and start blasting other Mechs pretty quickly. When the game is officially released, it’ll be free to play; so this is probably the best option Battletech/MechWarrior fans have at the moment to relive the glory days of MechWarrior 2.
