If you’ve ever attended the annual San Diego Comic Con you’ve experienced how insanely crowded the place ends up, especially on Saturday. The huge San Diego convention center is big, but it isn’t big enough for how huge the con has become. For the last couple years, Comic Con has been threatening to move away from San Diego to somewhere that can better handle not only the convention, but the hotels and parking that it demands. Both LA and Anaheim have been candidates fro the threatened move, but it doesn’t look like they’re going anywhere for a few years.
San Diego has committed to a $500 million expansion to the convention center, which will keep Comic Con there until at least 2016. If the expansion is successful, it’s pretty obvious that the con won’t be moving anywhere. All the threats to move were just a way to pressure the city into expanding the convention center and giving it the room that it needs.
