Star Citizen Will Require a Stellar PC to Run

Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen will finally bring back the long-lost space combat simulation to PCs. Although it’s probably about two years away, Roberts has updated the game’s FAQ on his website with some preliminary minimum system requirements, and it looks like most people will need to build a new computer to explore his persistent universe in a starfighter:

There will be a lot of optimization in the next 24-months, plus the usual fast pace of technology, so it is hard to say absolutely. At the moment you will be able to play it on a dual core PC with a GTX 460 or greater and 4GB of system memory. If you’re running an i7 2500, 2600, 2700 or better with a GTX 670 or greater then the stars are the limit! Since the game is built on CryEngine, their system requirements will stay roughly the same as ours.

The good news is that the game will be entirely free to play. You buy it once, and that’s it. There will be microtransactions, but everything sold in the cash shop will also be available in-game through normal gameplay.
