I know almost everyone is hoping that Episodes VII-IX would be based on the Thrawn trilogy. Trust me, I’m with you. That trilogy was the perfect sequel to the Holy Trilogy, and that’s why it sparked such a surge with Star Wars and created the Expanded Universe twenty years ago.
Unfortunately, Episode VII won’t be based on those books, or any books or comics for that matter.
EOnline spoke to a source inside Lucasfilm who confirmed that George’s outlines for the new trilogy is a completely original story. There were no details beyond that, but it does kill the hopes of seeing the Thrawn trilogy on the big screen.
Star Wars fans may be aware of a big hint of what Lucas has planned. Back during the making of Return of the Jedi, Lucas reportedly told Mark Hamill that his plans for a sequel trilogy included a much older Luke taking on the mentor role of Obi-Wan. Could that be what Lucas has planned for his final Star Wars story?
