The latest in a long line of 80s remakes on the way will be Disney’s Flight of the Navigator. The original movie was a pretty awesome scifi movie using relativistic space travel as the basis for its time travel, where a kid from the late 70s ends up in the 80s after traveling in space at the speed of light. The kid befriends a horse in the 80s before re-boarding the ship and becoming friends with the Pee Wee Herman robot. Variety revealed that Colin Trevorrow has been hired by Disney with his Safey Not Guaranteed partner to re-write the remake script.
As the original is pretty dated, it’s one movie where a remake can’t hurt. Safety Not Guaranteed, for a movie based on an Internet meme, was pretty awesome; so I trust Trevorrow to do good here. Hopefully it turns out like Red Dawn and ends up being better than the original.
