I’m really excited that we’re just over two years until a new Star Wars movie. This is my favorite time, when rumors start to fly and yesterday a big one popped up that could have some truth to it if you look deep enough.
AICN posted http://www.aintitcool.com/node/59411 from a reader who believes that Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof’s top secret scifi Disney spectacle “1952″ is really Episode VII.The reader goes into some crazy reasoning over the numbers to try to justify this, which is unneeded as the timeline of the 1952 announcement the Disney/Lucasfilm deal line up almost perfectly.
Bob Iger reportedly approached Lucas about the deal last May. The 1952 announcements in the trades happened a month later, and then in August Lucas had lunch with Hamill and Fisher to let them know about the sequel trilogy.
Comments on Twitter from Brad Bird promising new big scale spectacle from him, and Lindelof linking to the AICN article and mocking the talkbacks; kind of raise eyebrows and make people think it could be true.
While I wouldn’t want Lindelof anywhere near Star Wars, a Brad Bird Star Wars could be the best thing ever. He directed what is one of the greatest animated films of all time with The Iron Giant, two of Pixar’s best, and the best Mission: Impossible movie.
