When the Disney buyout of Lucasfilm was announced on Tuesday, one of the things Iger mentioned that Disney Interactive’s focus for gaming will be more on the social side of things than consoles. They would most likely license out Star Wars to other publishers, as opposed to publishing the games themselves through Lucasarts. That immediately brought into question the fate of the Next Gen console Star Wars title Star Wars 1313, but for now it looks like it’s still on track. Polygon got confirmation from Lucasarts about that:
“For the time being all projects are business as usual. We are excited about all the possibilities that Disney brings.”
As the game isn’t due until the Next Gen consoles arrive in a year or two, things can change. But with it looking so promising and a huge showcase not only for Star Wars but ILM and Skywalker sound, it’s doubtful they’re going to cancel it.
