Trekkers have long suspected that when Alice Eve was cast in the Star Trek sequel she would be playing Carol Marcus. After all, when a new blonde actress is cast in any Trek movie in the Abramsverse that’s the immediate suspicion. Despite claims to the contrary in Variety who said she was playing an all new character, TrekMovie visited Bad Robot and confirmed she is indeed Carol Marcus:
It is confirmed that Alice Eve is playing Carol Marcus. TrekMovie was first to report that (contrary to reporting from Variety) Eve would be playing a character from canon, and that character was Kirk’s former love (and mother to his son) from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, played by Bibi Besch. In Wrath of Khan Marcus was a civilian scientist, but TrekMovie has confirmed that in Into Darkness she is a member of Starfleet and a science officer assigned to the USS Enterprise with the rank of lieutenant.
They were also told that “John Harrison”, the villain, is really John Harrison…which doesn’t make that much sense. It’s a major villain in a big Star Trek sequel; yet they pick someone most fans have never heard of? That also doesn’t fit with the Khan theme being heard in the nine minutes that’s attached to the IMAX Hobbit…
