This weekend, Disney gave George Lucas a big Christmas present in the form of about $4.06 billion. After being cleared by officials in both the US and UK, Disney completed their purchase of Lucasfilm by giving George Lucas $2.21 billion in cash and about 37.1 million shares.
With that out of the way, Disney is moving forward with all things Star Wars. Episode VII is in the earliest stages of pre-production and we’re expected to hear some kind of big announcement next month. It’ll likely be the director’s name. The comics seem to be transitioning from Dark Horse and back to Marvel, and it’s been a while since we’ve heard much on the book side of things…so hopefully something will come in the next couple months.
The other things up in the air are the fates of the animated series. We haven’t heard anything about Star Wars: Detours in months, and the fifth season of Clone Wars will be ending soon. I know there was at one time a plan to only have Clone Wars run for five seasons, so we’re still waiting to see if there will be a sixth season on Disney XD or not.
