We know that Dredd is selling very well on BluRay. Lionsgate is apparently very happy with having the highest selling home video title of 2013 so far, so that begs the question as to if we’ll ever see the sequel. When the movie originally came out, we were told that it would need to make $50 million for a sequel to be a possibility. Now that the DVD/BD is selling so well…has things changed? Maybe.
Dredd director Pete Travis was interviewed by movies.com and he touched on the sequel:
Movies.com: If there ever is a Dredd 2, do you think you’ll return to direct it?
Travis: Who knows what will happen in the future? I just loved making this one. I hope it’s successful enough. I know Alex has lots of other stories he wants to tell, and I think Karl is just the epitome of Dredd. I really hope there’s an opportunity to tell some more stories together and take him on another journey.
Since the movie didn’t quite make the $50 million originally named, that response is a little more positive than you’d expect. There could possibly be more Dredd in our future…
