I think I speak for everyone when I say, we want Hellboy 3 right now. The first movie was awesome, but Golden Army took the whole thing to a whole new epic level. That movie looks gorgeous on BluRay, and I’d kill for a third movie. But despite del Toro having so much on his plate, Hellboy and the gang are still on his mind, but it looks like the third movie may just be a bit too ambitious for any studio to tackle. He told Latino Review:
Well, a couple of weeks ago or months ago, I did make a couple of phone calls to test, to gage the possibility of doing that because it’s a big movie. There’s no takers for a movie of that size. The two movies made their money back and a little bit. They were financially good, but one was fifty and the other one was eighty, eighty five. This is a hundred and forty. So no one wants to do that leap, from the financial side. So unless we find a way to do the mother of all kick starters.
He was probably joking about the whole Kickstarter thing, but I would back that. Kevin Smith has said that Clerks 3 would likely be funded that way, and I’m already planning to toss some money Smith’s way to see that movie happen. If del Toro really did do a Hellboy 3 Kickstarter, it could be the biggest one in history…
