Everyone seems to complain about the 12-year-olds spewing racial slurs on Xbox Live, but even that isn’t as bad as what you’ll experience playing a MOBA game. These free-to-play games, such as League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth, seem to attract the worst rejects from the Internet’s message boards with absolutely vile assholes polluting the chat channels in the game. I really feel sorry for anyone who decides to try out either of these games, as many players are absolutely not friendly at all to any new player.
If you want proof of how bad these players can be, League of Legends just handed out a few lifetime bans to three players. These are mega-perma-bans so bad that even future accounts by either of these guys will be immediately banned. Here’s just a taste of how evil they were:
Abusagr’s current account, StunnedandSlayed, has been suspended by the Tribunal five times, including a recent two-week suspension in December. This account has established a persistent record of in-game harassment, verbal abuse, and unacceptable behavior:
-54% of reports were for Offensive Language, Verbal Abuse, and Negative Attitude.
-StunnedandSlayed has been reported in 18% of total matches and is currently before the Tribunal for a possible permaban.Much worse, however, is the unprecedented multitude of violations in Abusagr’s gameplay history:
-He previously has been permabanned on three additional accounts, including the notorious DarkwinJax account.
-The DarkwinJax account established the highest harassment score ever recorded on the EU West server. No player, before or -since, has matched this degree of negative behavior.
-In game chat, Abusagr has threatened to physically injure players, including a Riot employee.
-His previous accounts are replete with a very large number of racist and anti-Semitic insults.
-DarkwinJax was reported more than 1,000 times during a 375-game period (Feb-Apr 2012).
Jensen’s Veigodx account has been punished by Tribunal three times, including as recently as January 9, 2013. In fewer than three months since the creation of this account, the Veigodx account has established a consistent record of in-game harassment, abuse, and poor behavior:
-58.8% of reports against Veigodx were for Offensive Language, Verbal Abuse, and Negative Attitude.Worse, however, are the violations in Jensen’s gameplay history:
-On multiple occasions, he has publicly and unapologetically admitted to engaging in a series of DDOS attacks against high-Elo players.
he Tribunal previously punished the Rayt3ch account seven times, establishing a persistent record of in-game harassment, verbal abuse, and poor behavior.
-49% of reports were for Offensive Language, Verbal Abuse, and Negative Attitude.
-Rayt3ch was reported in 20% of total matches, a rate four times greater than the average EU player.Despite repeated punishments and official warnings, Näslund’s behavior has worsened in the past several months, even as his team advanced into the upcoming League of Legends Championship Series (“LCS”) Season Three EU Qualifier.
-Rayt3ch’s current harassment score is among the worst 0.01% of all European accounts. Only one player in 10,000 sinks to this level of harassment.
As someone who has worked in MMO support in the past, I have had some reservations about how Riot handles disciplining players, but this shows how well their system can work to get rid of assholes.
