Last month, Warner Bros won a huge victory against the lawyer who was using the Siegel heirs to try to wrestle the rights of Superman away from Warner and DC. As with any legal case, the losing side immediately filed an appeal, but that appeal has now also be struck down. Deadline has the news of how the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal sided with Warner Brothers in saying that their previous 2001 agreement with the heirs gives them full rights to Superman.
Oh, and it gets even better. If being reassured by the courts that they do have the full rights to Superman, without any future fear of another lawyer coming after them and taking advantage of the heirs. Warner has filed claims in the past that state that this whole legal battle was a result of Marc Taberoff taking advantage of the Siegel heirs (intimidating them) in a scheme to get the rights to Superman for himself. Well, the heirs argued that his interactions with them were protected, but the judgement of the 9th Court disagreed which opens the door for Warner Brothers to pursue legal action against Taberoff.
It’s finally over. Finally. We can go on enjoying Superman and looking forward to Man of Steel.
