Last week news started to spread about standalone Star Wars movies that exist outside of the Sequel Trilogy. Disney CEO Bob Iger officially confirmed these, and there are rumors of a young Han Solo film, a Boba Fett adventure, and even a movie focused around Yoda. But what about Obi-Wan? Ewan McGregor was perfect as the younger Obi-Wan in the Prequel Trilogy, so could they possibly bring him back for a new movie?
In promoting Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer with MTV, Ewan McGregor gave his idea about how a standalone Obi-Wan movie could be pulled off:
“I think it’s a good idea,” McGregor said of getting his own film. “The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, ‘Episode III,’ before Alec Guinness, there’s that period where he’s in the desert.”
“That might be my window, there, to tell that story,” McGregor said. “I don’t know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff.”
The story of Obi-Wan in the desert has been told previously in the Star Wars Visionaries story “Old Wounds” where Darth Maul with his robotic legs tracks Obi-Wan to Tatooine as Obi-Wan is protecting a toddler Luke.
