Yesterday Kotaku broke the long-rumored news that Microsoft’s upcoming next-generation Xbox would require an always-on internet connection to function. Similar to the always-on DRM that crippled Diablo III and Sim City, the system would require an active internet connection to launch apps or games. As it currently stands with the development hardware, if you get disconnected for more than three minutes you get kicked out of your game.
Obviously people did not respond kindly to this news. The PlayStation 4 will not require an active internet connection to function, and as there are areas of the country without reliable internet; people don’t like DRM that requires you to be connected to the internet to play your games.
So fifteen-month Microsoft Game Studios employee Adam Orth decided to take to Twitter to defend the always-on connection. Only he did it in the most insulting and stupid way possible:
